About this tool

The ASCVD Pooled Cohort Equations estimate your 10-year risk of a heart attack, stroke, or fatal cardiovascular event. They are the basis of the 2018 ACC/AHA Cholesterol Guideline.

The score is validated for adults aged 40–79 without existing cardiovascular disease. It informs — but does not replace — a clinician's judgement on lipid-lowering therapy.

Frequently asked questions

What is a high ASCVD score?

≥7.5% over 10 years is considered intermediate and warrants a statin discussion; ≥20% is high risk.

Why is race a field?

The original equations were derived separately for White and African-American populations. Where another race applies, the White coefficients are used as a default.

Can I lower my score?

Yes — every blood pressure point lower, every drop in LDL cholesterol, and stopping smoking moves the curve meaningfully.
