eGFR Calculator
Estimate kidney filtration with the 2021 CKD-EPI equation.
About this tool
This calculator uses the 2021 CKD-EPI equation — the race-free formula recommended by the National Kidney Foundation and American Society of Nephrology — to estimate your glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) from serum creatinine.
eGFR is the standard way to assess kidney function and stage chronic kidney disease (CKD). A single result should be interpreted alongside a urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio (ACR) and ideally repeated over 3 months for a definitive CKD diagnosis.

Frequently asked questions
Why is race no longer in the equation?
The 2021 update removed the Black-race coefficient because it lacked a biological basis and contributed to delayed care. The race-free equation is now standard in most labs.
Is eGFR alone enough to diagnose CKD?
No. CKD requires either reduced eGFR (<60) or evidence of kidney damage (proteinuria, structural change) for at least 3 months.
What does a low eGFR mean for medication?
Some common medications — including NSAIDs, certain antibiotics, and contrast dyes — need dose adjustment or avoidance when eGFR is reduced. Always tell prescribers your kidney function.
