STOP-BANG Sleep Apnea Screen
Identify your risk for obstructive sleep apnea.
About this tool
STOP-BANG is the most widely validated screening tool for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). It uses 8 yes/no items covering symptoms (Snoring, Tiredness, Observed apneas, Pressure) and demographics (BMI, Age, Neck, Gender).
A score of 3 or more identifies people who should consider a sleep study; 5 or more strongly suggests moderate-to-severe OSA.

Frequently asked questions
Is STOP-BANG a diagnosis?
No — it's a screening tool. Diagnosis of OSA requires a sleep study (home test or in-lab polysomnography).
Why does neck size matter?
A larger neck circumference reflects more soft tissue around the upper airway, which is a strong predictor of airway collapse during sleep.
Can sleep apnea be cured?
Treatment with CPAP, oral appliances, weight loss, or surgery is highly effective — most people feel dramatically better within weeks of starting therapy.
